La missione del Rotary è volta a promuovere la pace e la comprensione mondiale per mezzo dei suoi programmi umanitari.
Il programma più imponente avviato dal Rotary negli anni ’80, e ormai giunto quasi alla conclusione, è quello della eradicazione della Poliomielite in tutte le nazioni del mondo.
Per realizzarlo, il Rotary ha inviato migliaia dei suoi volontari in tutti i Paesi in cui questa terribile malattia infantile era endemica, sfidando ogni sorta di disagi, di ostilità e anche di guerre locali.
Ad oggi abbiamo vaccinato oltre 2 miliardi e mezzo di bambini e i paesi polio-endemici sono stati così ridotti dagli originari 125 a solamente 3: Nigeria, Pakistan e Afghanistan.
Ma il Rotary è anche fatto di tante persone comuni che operano ogni giorno disinteressatamente, per mettere a disposizione delle loro comunità locali le proprie competenze professionali seguendo, con altruismo e impegno, quanto raccomandato dal fondatore del Rotary, Paul Harris: “Le attività del Rotary devono essere l’espressione di una forza invisibile, la buona volontà nel fare”.

Rotary's mission is to promote peace and world understanding through its humanitarian programs.
The most impressive program initiated by Rotary in the 1980s, and which has now almost come to an end, is that of the eradication of polio in all nations of the world.
To make it happen, Rotary sent thousands of its volunteers to all the countries where this terrible childhood disease was endemic, defying all sorts of hardships, hostilities and even local wars.
To date we have vaccinated over 2.5 billion children and the polio-endemic countries have thus been reduced from the original 125 to only 3: Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
But Rotary is also made up of many ordinary people who work selflessly every day, to make their professional skills available to their local communities by following, with altruism and commitment, the recommendations of Rotary's founder, Paul Harris: "The activities of Rotary they must be the expression of an invisible force, the good will to do ”.
